Saturated phospholipids like dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), are a major component of pulmonary surfactant. As endogenous molecules, phospholipids provide unique advantages for pulmonary drug formulations due to their performance and safety. DPPC and distearoylphosphatidylcholine (DSPC) are currently used as excipients in several FDA-approved and commercially successful pulmonary drug products.

Since its foundation in 1977, Lipoid has gained an outstanding reputation in the development and industrial production of high-quality lecithin, phospholipids, and other lipid products, meeting the high standards of the pharmaceutical industry. Lipoid is the world’s leading company for the production and supply of a wide range of natural and synthetic phospholipid excipients on an industrial scale. Our production processes have been optimized over many years to ensure a sustainable supply from renewable sources under the highest environmental standards.

Lipoid’s quality management system meets the highest standards set by the regulatory authorities and the pharmaceutical industry. All manufacturing sites of Lipoid are GMP and ISO 9001 certified. Our facilities have been successfully inspected by the US FDA, local regulatory authorities, and customers. Drug Master Files (US DMF type IV) are available for a large number of products. Synthetic Phospholipids

Increasing numbers of phospholipid-containing dosage forms have been introduced on the market for inhalation administration. Considering their excellent toxicity profile and their endogenous occurrence in high concentration, phospholipids are excellent excipients for pulmonary applications. Since the lung contains saturated phospholipids, saturated PCs and PGs are the preferred phospholipids for use in inhalation dosage forms. They are applied either in dry powder inhalation forms or in liquid formulations for nebulization. More Info
